WHAT IS FRAGILE X SYNDROME?
Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) is a genetic disorder caused by a mutation (a change in the DNA structure) in the X chromosome. It is the most commonly known cause of inherited developmental disability worldwide. In addition to learning problems, FXS results in a range of emotional and behavioural problems including anxiety, ADHD, hyperarousal and autism. Physical features are found in some but not all individuals. Affected individuals can be mildly to severely affected.
About Us
The Fragile X Alliance Inc is a non-profit organisation whose mission statement is to promote education and research into fragile X syndrome, as well as disseminate information and new findings about fragile X syndrome. Specifically, FXA Inc offer clinical services and educational resources. In addition to this, we are strongly involved in research projects aimed at improving care and understanding of FXS.
